Sweetness of the Now
(Above: Grand Water Trine 🙏🏻, Saturn goes direct.)
“Silence is the highest of all achievements.”
— Ramana Maharshi
There is nothing wrong with external achievement. Building bridges. A business. Finishing a book, and so on. There really is no such thing as wrong.
It’s just that nothing you build lasts. It will eventually fade away into nothing. As such, we are wise not to place too much emphasis on this type of the achievement, lest we set ourselves up for pain when we experience loss.
Internal achievement is different. Qualitatively different.
Internal achievement deals with the removal of layers, specifically layers of the false self, most notably — your personality, your past tendencies, and your ego.
There is no reward without work. Labor is required to build, and the same is required to purify these false layers through a kind of burning process that can cause suffering.
Go far enough into this and you can start to understand what Ramana Maharshi was referring to. The ability to just be and be at ease with that, is not to be underestimated. It is a remarkable achievement — you experience the sweetness of this moment and do not need to do a thing to improve upon it.
You enter into a naturally feel good state that has no prerequisite and follows you wherever you go. That is something worth striving for because it lasts. You are becoming you, and the closer you get to the center, the more sweetness you experience.
It all starts in intention. Do you want to know the truth of who you are? From there, a path suited just for you opens up. Your job is to follow it all the way until the end and to trust the process, especially when the fires are raging. (You will know when they are!)
An aspirant truly steeped in selfhood, herself becomes a catalyst of change and affects the environment around her by virtue of her charged presence.
To keen observers, this becomes a more worthwhile pursuit than acquisition. 🐼
