Start thinking, if you don't already, of the word "holy" in the sense of being whole, versus being elevated or enlightened.
We are here to work. Not just to pay the rent but to expand our awareness, refine our characters, and for some, totally transcend the personal sense of self that lives life from "I, me, and mine."
By in large, this work is defined by the journey of healing. Healing means to make whole, which means to build bridges between unnaturally separated parts—physically, psychologically, emotionally, and even spiritually.
As separated parts rejoin, bonds strengthen. As bonds strengthen, entirely new thoughts and feelings take over that help us to take the next step, and the next and the next.
We are putting pieces together, just like a puzzle. It is a time-consuming process filled with a fair amount of frustration and difficulty. Every so often, though, something "clicks." You have a breakthrough.
With that breakthrough, joy flows, and with it, motivation to keep going. So on you go.
Keep with this long enough and, slowly, a beautiful tapestry starts to come into focus. Everything starts to make sense. You are moving from lost to found. Be glad.
All of us are, for the most part, fumbling around in the dark. Our intuition guides us. We take action in good faith. We succeed. We fail. We take right turns. We take wrong turns.
As with anything, what's important is to keep at the puzzle through all the ups, downs, twists, and turns, and especially in the darkest hours of the night.
Your commitment will steady you and the breakthroughs will come.
