When it matters least, is when it matters most
It's not everyday we deliver a commencement speech. Host a party. Launch a company. Etc.
Yet, it's during these rare occasions that we give it our all ... we feel we need to deliver (or else).
Seldom do we give the same precedence to the hundreds of small, seemingly inconsequential moments of each day we live.
Such as that child crying on the street (somebody else will take care of him). Or that piece of unsightly piece of trash (not my problem). Or that [fill in the blank opportunity to reach out and make some kind of positive impact].
The test is not how well we perform when everything is on the line, when we are on duty.
The test is how well we perform when nothing is on the line, when nobody is watching, when nothing matters, when we are off duty.
That will determine what kind of cloth you are made from.
If you agree, your worldview changes. Now, all the little moments of every day become big moments.
Big moments for you to express who you are. To do something where somebody didn't. To take action. To give it your best shot.
To give of yourself fully because there is an opportunity for you to do so, even if it's a small one.
