What’s familiar is what’s keeping you stuck

Maybe you want to loose 20 pounds. So you start working out. Then you realize it’s going to take work to loose that 20 pounds. Hard work. Uncomfortable work. Then either you stick with it or you quit.

It doesn’t matter what the result you want is. Whatever the goal, hard and often uncomfortable work is going to be required to get there.

Perhaps you carry the intention of being more open and loving, so you can connect better with others.

Whatever it is, the reason you are not where you want to be is a result of how you currently live your life. Your norms. Your lifestyle. Relationships. Beliefs. Emotional hurts. And so on.

A change to introduce something new will require a change to your status quo.

When the change begins, it feels foreign. Uncomfortable. Overwhelming. Difficult. You may not want it. You complain about it. And you may quit.

Remember in these moments that what’s familiar is what’s keeping you stuck.

In other words, what feels comfortable and normal is precisely what’s keeping you from the place you want to be.

If you are serious about change, you will need to muster the fortitude to go beyond your personal comfort zone while you integrate everything new required to reach your destination.

Be like the Olympian training for the Olympics. In some sessions, she may miss her lifts and perform poorly. In others, she will hit new personal records. What’s important is showing up for practice each time with the continuous commitment to improve.

Also remember change is a process and takes time.
