Truth is good for you
One of the subtler reasons why things are as 'bad' as they are right now is simple: We are living in fear of expressing our uniqueness. Of expressing the truth of who we are.
This shows up in simple things, such as saying "yes" when you mean "no." Or, in much grander ways, such as acquiescing to unjust authority.
We're not totally to blame, our upbringing was filled with conditioning to foster such a passive/obedient stance.
Like a bird hatching, the time has come to break free of this trance and step out of our shells of fear if we are at all interested in making the world a better place.
This can begin by opening your mouth and speaking what is really going on to your family, friends, and loved ones. What are you afraid of saying that might rock the boat?
We must rock the boat--the effects of not doing so are more harmful than what you fear might happen.
This means dispensing with political correctness, politeness, what others may think of you, etc.
Meditate on this image we should.
