Sitting in silence

What's the difference between sitting in silence and meditation?

They seem to be the same process.

It boils down to a matter of intent.

Meditation can mean motive.

I sit to get effect.

Like a consumer.

I sit to get peace. Spiritual advancement. World change. Knowledge. Grace.

Meditation becomes a doing action, instead of an undoing action. Effort is involved. And likely, a fair degree of frustration from failure and subsequent trying harder.

Reality responds to congruence. If what you're (really) asking for is not congruent with your action, you don't get what you think you're asking for.

Sitting in silence is something different.

A more mature meditation, you could call it. What happens post-seeking.

I sit to give.

Give myself up. My wants. My wishes. My desires. My dreams.

Any notion of individuality, what's personal to "me."

I sit in silence.

I do nothing.

What's funny is that, instead of trying to get.

I then receive.

A connection comes. A deep stillness. A deep peace. A deep knowing.

Without effort.

The effort lies in not using effort.

When I try to get, I get nothing.

When I ask for nothing, I get everything because I had it to begin with.

Reality responds to congruence.
